The two year project brings together 40 diverse community groups from around Oxford, Reading, Henley and Windsor, and will culminate in a number of large scale celebrations – involving over 1200 performers – during the summer of 2012.The tree itself will be a monumental, sculpted work of art, created by innovative high tech theatrical design duo Block9. Powered by the energy of humans, the tree will shudder back to life in a spectacular blaze of light…
The very best in artistic, scientific and environmental talent and know-how have been employed to work alongside the community groups, to inspire and educate whilst developing the final performances.
The project’s creative team is made up of:
Charlie Morrissey: Artistic Director
Stewart Collins: Creative Producer
Block9: Artists, Sculptors & Designers
Orlando Gough: Composer
Electric Pedals: Sustainable Energy Designers
The Tree of Light project will be delivered by Thames Arts, a newly formed consortium that comprises the CIAO! Festival, Henley Festival, Oxford Inspires and Windsor Festival.
One of the major national projects being supported by Legacy Trust UK, it offers communities and schools their own chance to get involved and celebrate the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games.
The Tree of Light was the centre-piece of three stunning public spectacles taking place in Oxford, Reading and Stonor Park.
